WASHINGTON “HOW TO TAME LIONS TOUR” with RAT VS POSSUM & SOPHIA BROUS
SOLD OUT!!!
Washington teased the audience with her soft and melodious tunes and husky voice. Washington’s almost bashful demeanor adds to the deliverance of her poetically original melodies” Faster Louder JAN 2010
It’s hard to believe that Washington were unearthed by Triple J only 12 months ago! That accolade led to their first performance as a band being the Big Day Out. Since then Washington have earned their chops by playing just about every town in Australia with the likes of Tim Finn, Camille, Grizzly Bear and Paul Kelly. The year ended with their leading lady Megan Washington winning the inaugural Vanda & Young Songwriting competition from a field of more than 3,000 entries.
Having just finished an amazing run of summer festival shows in Australia including Falls, Southbound & Sunset Sounds, it is with great pleasure that Washington announce their first ever headline tour in support of the much-loved ‘How To Tame Lions’ EP. These 5 intimate shows will provide the last opportunity to catch Washington before the band travel to the US to play the prestigious SXSW Festival.
Joining the band on tour are Melbourne’s Rat Vs Possum whose show has been described as a ‘tribal-psych glitter circus’. So dancing shoes are compulsory. ( link: www.myspace.com/meganwashington )

M Division Recordings present, INVERTO - LIVE CONCERT RECORDING! with DJ RANSOM & NHJ
Following the mysterious disappearance of multitrack tapes recorded during Inverto's ill-fated 2008 residency at the Toff, M Division Recordings attempts to turn back time. Two years on and Inverto return to the Toff for one night only in a last-ditch attempt to finally record an album before senility, deafness or both breaks up Melbourne's most unknown supergroup.
Long-haul trucking is a serious business - the long hours, potential risks, greasy foods, loneliness... not to mention the evil temptations of the truck stop hooker. One thing is universally hailed by these rugged frontiers people as the motivating force behind their often gargantuan efforts. Ox blood? No. Ice? No. 'No doze'? Guess again.... The prime mover behind these prime movers is the number 1 'truckin' sound of the 21st century. Inverto. On keyboards there's Hanna 'The Long Hours' Silver, who has been perfecting her craft since 2006 when her Mum brought home her first Speak'n'Spell. The 'Potential Risk' on bass is part-time hairdresser and full time stuntman Luke 'Hodgee' Hodgeson. 'Greasy Foods' aka Hayden Leggett is a master of both drum machine programming and pantomime, making him the perfect 'drummer' for the band. A special corner at the rear of the stage, right near the edge, is reserved for the most important member of the band. Sometimes known to participate in as many as one song in a twelve-song set, 'Lonely' Phil Ransom once completed seventeen games of solitaire before anyone in the band noticed he missed a cue. This leaves only one - and, frankly, the less said about the third string guitarist in 'Shane Warne The Musical', and his myriad of sexually transmitted diseases, the better. The trucker's life is a hard one, not helped by Marty 'Come on, you've got ten hours til you're due in Dubbo' Lubran. Or maybe that is helpful. Who knows? One thing is for sure: the lifeblood of Australia is its highways and the prime mover on these roads is Inverto. ( link: http://www.m-division.com/ )

HOULETTE – 'BLESS BLESS' ALBUM LAUNCH with NICK HUGGINS and THE UKELADIES
$10.00 on the door
Houlette return to Melbourne for the official launch of their debut record, 'Bless Bless'. Performing one final show as part of their Australian Tour, Houlette will be joined at The Toff on Friday April 2nd by guest artists, Nick Huggins and The Ukeladies.Houlette glean a mix of early folk influences, interwoven with minimalist modern-pop arrangements and dark intermissions. Achingly beautiful songs feature the rich vocals of singer/song-writer Felicity Cripps and harmonies woven with french prose. A sparseness to Houlette's sound allows for resonant simplicity, while at other times battlefield drums and wild strings pull against dissonant guitars. Houlette's stunning performance creates a unique, incandescent thread, manifesting a genre all of their own.
'Pine Island is the impossibly lovely and groovy new single from local five-piece Houlette, taken from their forthcoming album...with the band's poetically narcotic yet moving sound and singer/songwriter Felicity Cripps gorgeously sensitive voice' - Tony McMohan, Inpress.
Bless Bless will be available on the night, both as CD and limited edition LP! ( link: http://www.myspace.com/houlette )

THE TIGER AND ME - ALBUM LAUNCH with A LUKA
$9.00 + $2.70 BF = $11.70 online presales / $13.00 on the door
The Tiger and Me create indie-pop music as seen through the looking glass of European folk songs. Three lead vocalists lead a troupe of multi-instrumentalists from gentle folk melodies through to riotous frenzied waltzes, with a wink and a nod to the old cabaret den and speakeasy tradition. Hot on the heels of performances at Port Fairy Folk Festival, they launch their debut album at The Toff in Town on Saturday April 17, with support from Aluka. The Melbourne sextet ignites the stage with a live show that is an event for any rampant feet out there looking for the ultimate place to whirl and stomp. ( link: http://www.thetigerandme.com.au/ )

GEORGIA FIELDS and her MINI-INDIE-ORCHESTRA – “SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE” SINGLE LAUNCH with SPECIAL GUESTS
$15.00 + $2.80 BF = $17.80 online presales / $18.00 on the door
Georgia Fields is earnestly applying the finishing touches to her debut album. In the meantime, the charismatic songbird is releasing the second single from her forthcoming record, to tide us over until the winter LP release.
“Something Borrowed, Something Blue” intertwines the childlike naivety of experimental sounds with mature and considered orchestral arrangements. Romantic without dissolving into a swamp of twee, the track features a charmingly bizarre animal toy sample. B-sides include ‘Sinking Relation Ship’ – a mournful, maritime-y tale of a couple who are “falling apart like pavlova”… and the string-lush ‘Happy Accidents’, recorded in her cellist’s lounge room.
On Thursday 29 April, Fields will be accompanied by her 12-piece “Mini-Indie-Orchestra” – an incredible ensemble of Melbourne’s musical heavyweights, featuring strings, brass, woodwind and tuned percussion. The single’s music video (by acclaimed emerging director Rohan Spong) will also be unveiled at the launch. ( link: http://www.myspace.com/georgiafields )
